Hi to those expecting to see a link through to the source... but I'm experimenting with a new posting format at the moment. It's for those time when 140 characters isn't enough - but when there's not enough energy for a full blog post.
When I listen to the young activists, writers and thinkers that comprise Mair Nor a Roch Wind, it's like some visitation from the near future - meaning the political resettlements and realignments that will take place after a Yes vote, and hopefully in the run up to the first elections in 2016.
I find myself responding to most of their statements - and I get a name check in the link to their podcast interview above - with a "Yes, although..." (which isn't quite as self-cancelling as a "Yes, but...).
My main one is, "Yes, there should be a left politics in post-indy Scotland that moves in concert with the general push-back against a failed neo-liberal model... although don't we need an answer to the lingering question of how we trade and exchange our way in a world of emerging economies? And if the Tories' "global race" (or Blair's global-markets-as-force-of-nature) is a merciless paradigm, what is a more humane and progressive one? Don't the workers whose essential conditons we want to improve also need to know how we'll make our way in the world - or how the powers of independence can balance internal improvements, and lucrative-meets-justly-achieved external markets?"
But in any case, listening to Cailean, Rory and Amy feels like politics is actually about to properly start in this particular polity. If we cross the line in September.
